meet your july Spotlight artist
Each month, She Shoots Magazine highlights one artist from our featured creatives through our Spotlight Artist Contest. Finalists are selected based on community engagement during the submission period. The top three artists then move on to a private vote inside the She Shoots Society, where our members choose the month’s Spotlight Artist.
This process allows our wider community to help celebrate the work that resonates with them, while giving Society members the final opportunity to vote in a thoughtful, supportive, and community-centered space.
Our Spotlight Artist feature is designed to go beyond a single image. It is a place to honor the person behind the work — their creative journey, their story, their growth, and the heart they bring to what they create. The selected Spotlight Artist receives a dedicated feature on our website and inside She Shoots Magazine all month long, giving their work an even brighter place to be seen, celebrated, and remembered.
There is something special about an artist who grows up with their craft.
Meet Meagan Raiford
For Meagan Raiford of Meagan Nicole Photography, based in Montgomery, Texas, photography has been part of her life since she was young. What began as a hobby eventually became something much bigger. By the age of 13, Meagan had already started her photography business, beginning with sports photography before slowly expanding into other genres and discovering the kind of work that felt most aligned with her heart.
Today, Meagan specializes in maternity, newborn, family, engagement, and senior photography. Her work is rooted in connection, comfort, and storytelling. She does not just want to take beautiful images. She wants the people in front of her camera to feel seen, relaxed, and fully themselves.
That intention is what gives her work its warmth.
Meagan approaches each session with the desire to tell a story. Whether she is documenting the quiet anticipation of motherhood, the tenderness of a newborn, the joy of a family, the excitement of an engagement, or the milestone of a senior year, her focus remains the same: creating images that feel honest and meaningful.
Her creative journey is also a reminder that growth often happens quietly, over time. One of the things Meagan is most proud of is simply how far she has come. She finds beauty in looking back at old sessions — whether they were taken six days ago, six months ago, or six years ago — and seeing the progress, the lessons, and the evolution in her work.
That kind of reflection takes humility. It also takes dedication.
Like many artists, Meagan has had to learn how to navigate comparison. She describes it as both one of the biggest challenges and one of the biggest opportunities for growth as a photographer. Comparison can either sharpen your eye and push you to improve, or it can become something that makes you question your worth. For Meagan, the lesson has been learning how to find the balance — allowing inspiration to help her grow without letting it become a reason to tear herself down.
That balance is part of what makes her story so relatable.
Meagan’s work carries the evidence of an artist who has stayed committed, kept learning, and continued showing up for both her clients and herself. Her images are not only about milestones. They are about the people living inside those moments.
As July’s Spotlight Artist, Meagan Raiford represents the kind of creative growth that happens through consistency, heart, and the courage to keep evolving.
