Melissa Quiruz: Care, Clothing, and Community Support

There is a quiet kindness behind the work of Melissa Quiruz — the kind of care that notices a real need and chooses to do something about it.

Through Community Donation Collective, Melissa creates donation-based pop-up shopping experiences designed to help families access affordable clothing in a welcoming, judgment-free environment. Her work is rooted in accessibility, dignity, and the belief that support does not always have to be complicated to be meaningful.

As a mother of three, Melissa understands firsthand how quickly clothing costs can become overwhelming. Children grow fast, seasons change, sizes shift, and what fit last month may suddenly be too small. For many families, keeping up can feel like a constant financial strain.

Wanting to create something practical, thoughtful, and genuinely helpful, Melissa began collecting gently used clothing, washing and sorting every item herself, and organizing pop-up events where families can shop at extremely low prices.

Most items are priced around six dollars or less, making it possible for families to put together full outfits without the stress of overspending. What may seem like a simple clothing rack or table of folded items can become something much bigger for the person finding exactly what they need.

What makes Melissa’s work especially meaningful is the heart behind it.

She wants her pop-ups to feel less like a traditional sale and more like a true community closet — a space where people feel comfortable, supported, and cared for while finding things they genuinely love. There is no pressure, no judgment, and no shame. Just a welcoming place where families can breathe a little easier.

Even though Community Donation Collective is still early in its journey and continuing to grow, the encouragement and support Melissa has already received have shown her just how needed spaces like this truly are.

For her, the most rewarding moments come from watching families leave feeling lighter, relieved, and excited. Sometimes the smallest finds — a jacket for a child, a pair of shoes, a few outfits for the week — can carry the biggest impact during difficult seasons.

At the heart of Community Donation Collective is a simple but powerful belief: small acts of care can create lasting change.

Through every item collected, washed, sorted, and shared, Melissa is building more than a pop-up. She is creating a space where community care feels tangible, accessible, and deeply human.
